I read something about a chap that got his steam account taken over and after some digging he found this article and said that he hadnt followed its advice and that if he had he might have been better protected.

anyways i checked and i hadnt verified my email account as suggested below, i did it and i thought some of you guys might want to check too.




Protect yourself! Prevent scams & phishing! DO IT NOW!

Step 1: Open Steam.
Step 2: Click File in the upper left then click Settings in the drop down.
Step 3: Ensure that your Contact Email address under the Account tab is correct. If not, update it with the Change contact email... button.
Step 4: Click the Verify email address.... NOTE: This button appears to be missing in the Carbon Steam Skin. If you don't see it, switch back to the Default Steam Skin.
Step 5: Check your email Inbox and open the new Steam Support email. If you don't see it, check your Spam folder.
Step 6: Click the verification link in the email.
Step 7: Sweetness!

But remember... DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD FOR STEAM AND YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!!! Otherwise a scammer will be able to access your email account if you accidental give away your password!!! Most importantly, no one legit will ever ask you for your password so don't ever give it to anyone!

Mines is already verified, I do it on ever clean install of steam.
